Agilent Announces a Breakthrough in Real-Time Cell Analysis

A few years ago, I blogged about Agilent’s acquisition of Seahorse Bioscience.  This amazing technology enables scientists to see what is going on inside of a living cell in real time.  Researchers can better understand diseases and potential therapeutics.

Agilent has just announced an expansion to this technology.  The Agilent Seahorse XF Real-Time ATP Rate Assay Kit enables researchers to measure and quantify the rate at which cells produce adenosine triphosphate (ATP).

ATP is considered “the energy currency of life.”  ATP molecules capture the energy we get from food and use it to fuel just about everything we do.  In fact, scientists estimate that your body produces more than 160 kg of ATP every day!

Agilent’s new assay kit is the only product that can measure ATP production from both of the cell’s energy-producing pathways (mitochondrial respiration and glycolysis) simultaneously.  This provides a window into critical activities behind cell signaling, proliferation, activation, toxicity and biosynthesis.
