I’ve blogged about how Agilent equipment appears in several Hollywood movies, including “The Incredible Hulk,” “Transformers,” “Spider-Man” and “The Avengers.”
Reporting about this can be challenging. Normally, I can’t talk about this stuff because of non-disclosure agreements. And I can’t share photos due to copyright reasons.
… unless I can figure out a clever way around these restrictions…
For the recent 20th Century Fox movie, “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” the producers wanted to feature laboratory instruments in some of the scenes. They chose Agilent equipment, including an Agilent 1260 HPLC and 5977 MSD. Unfortunately, these scenes ended up on the cutting room floor and never made it to the theatrical release.
The scenes have been restored in the “Rogue Cut” special edition released on home video! If you watch this version, pay attention 1 hour and 40 minutes into the movie. Even better: thanks to the wonders of YouTube, you can what I’m talking about right now: view this clip at the 1:20 mark, or this clip at the 0:03 mark.
While I’m on the subject, Agilent was also featured in the recent (and now cancelled) CBS television series “Extant,” starring Halle Berry. The show featured androids called “humanichs,” so episodes often featured laboratory scenes with life science equipment.
Agilent Lab Automation equipment seen in the show included a Bravo Automated Liquid handler, BenchCel 2R Microplate Handler, Microplate Labeler and DDR Robotic Arm. You can still see us on Internet review sites such as ReviewStream (fourth photo), CelebDirtyLaundry (first photo) and Observer (second photo).
That’s it for now. If you see any Agilent equipment at the movies or on television, drop me a note!
