For more than 40 years, Agilent has been a leading provider of analytical instruments for drug testing in sports.
The World Anti-Doping Agency oversees the fight against drugs in sports. Barcelona, Spain, has one of 32 doping control laboratories accredited by WADA. The Anti-Doping Control Laboratory at Hospital del Mar receives and analyzes urine samples from all over the world. They have to ensure that every result is accurate and properly tested.
In a new video, Dr. Josep Marcos discusses why the lab relies on Agilent equipment, including Agilent GC/MS, LC/MS and GC Triple-Quad systems.
“In an event like the Olympic Games or Pan American Games, we have to run 1,000 to 2,000 samples in a very short period of time, in two weeks,” Dr. Marcos says. “The instruments have to be capable of running all these samples without making any mistakes, and of course without any malfunction.
“If it’s a false positive result for us, we will be losing our accreditation in this area. We want to have the best analytical tools. Instruments like the Triple-Quad from Agilent give us this accuracy, sensitivity and confidence.”
