2014 marks the 100th Anniversary of Max von Laue’s Nobel Prize awarded for the diffraction of X-rays by crystals. As a result of this milestone and the fundamental importance of Crystallography as a technique in many branches of scientific research, the UN General Assembly has declared 2014 as the International Year of Crystallography (IYCr2014).
IYCr2014 kicks off with an opening ceremony at UNESCO headquarters in Paris on January 20th and 21st 2014 which will be followed by a yearlong program of global events geared to increase public awareness of this field, as well as to foster international collaboration around the world.
Agilent will play a key role in IYCr2014, sponsoring activities such as the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) “Crystallography in Everyday Life” Photo Contest and the IUCr-UNESCO OpenLab. OpenLab will provide access to crystallographic knowledge and technology in the developing world through teaching workshops taking place at Agilent X-ray Diffraction customer labs worldwide.
