Future Engineer Brings Home the Gold at Illinois Regional Science Fair

Combining his interest in Lego Mindstorms® with Agilent test equipment won a 14-year old aspiring scientist a gold medal at the Illinois Regional Science Fair.

Danny Dirienzo, the son of an Agilent sales manager, set out to determine which brand of AA alkaline batteries works best in a battery operated toy.  The enterprising eighth grader used an Agilent N6705B / N6781A DC power analyzer demo as a logging voltmeter in the experiment and was able to support his hypothesis: that the Duracell brand battery has the highest voltage after one hour of continuous use.

The young scientist’s solution won him “Best in Category for Electronic Papers” and made his experiment eligible for the state competition to be held at the University of Illinois next month.
